Labor and Delivery

After my drs. appointment on Jan. 24th I was hopeful that baby Rachel would come soon but trying to not get my hopes up just in case she wanted to come late. On Jan. 26 Saturday at 7:30am I started to feel contractions. But it was normal for me since the last couple of weeks I would always get false ones. As the morning progressed I felt like this was the real thing. They started to hurt a little. Kyle had staff duty that morning so we decided that if my contractions didn't ease up after he checked into work then we would go to the hospital. 10:00 am when Kyle got back home from checking into staff duty I told him we should probably go to the hospital. We took our kids to the Sparks family right behind us who are such awesome neighbors and friends! We headed to the hospital and on the way I felt very nervous as I could tell Kyle was anxious to get there. There was a lot of traffic (Hawaii always has traffic) and we got there around 10:30 am. The dr. wanted to make sure I was in Active Labor so he checked me and I was 5 cm dialted and 75% effaced at a +2 station. Baby was still high up but would come down during labor. I got all checked in and waited. As time progressed I wanted to wait to have an epidural until I got really uncomfortable. Well as time went on I did start to feel uncomfortable and got an epidural but the epidural didn't work. I kept thinking it would kick in but it didn't. I had a very interesting dr who I can't even remember his name would check on me and he told me I was 4 cm dialted right before he broke my water at around 3 or 3:30pm. Can you really go from a 5 to 4 in active labor? (I was a little relieved when he ended up not being my delivery dr.) The nurse Kelly and I were really confused so right after he left she decided to check me and said I was definetly 6 cm dialated. By that point the pain was so unbearable they called the anathesioligist back to redue my epidural. He didn't quite believe that it wasn't working but trust me it was not working. It turned out I might as well have given birth without one. He gave me a spinal to work faster for me AND an epidural so that way I was covered. (turns out the epidural started to work after I gave birth 10 minutes later). Right after he gave me the spinal and epidural they checked me and I was fully dialated and ready to give birth. Kyle put on a drs. gown and gloves since they said he could help deliver her! 3 minutes of pushing and Kyle helped deliver baby Rachel! He got to cut the cord and they immediately put baby Rachel on my tummy. Wow! Labor and Delivery of all of my kids births are the best part. I don't prefer the pain but it still is one of my favorite parts of pregnancy. Nothings like holding your baby for the first time! She came out so perfect and it brought Kyle and I back to when Lexi was born because she looks EXACTLY like Lexi did!
Rachel Mary Kunz was born at 4:33 pm @ 7 lbs. 2 oz , 18.5 inches long with lots of brown/black hair!

Baby Rachels first bath!
Funny shirt the nurse put on baby Rachel.
All the children loved seeing Baby Rachel!
The adorable Liberty who now is not the baby of the family.
She loves baby though!
I love how Lexi's face is plastered to the babys crib! ha!
She sure loves Rachel!
It's hard to nurse baby when all 3 kids are
always wanting to see her! ha!
Lexi got to be the first sibling to feed baby Rachel.
I was discharged from the hospital at 10:30 pm on Jan. 27th!
I would've gone home at 4:30 but they wanted to see baby Rachel
poop before I left and so I had to wait until late at night. I just
wanted to be home with all my kiddos. We got home at around 11:30pm that night.
It felt so good to sleep in my own bed and to wake
up with all of our kids in the morning.
Baby Rachels all ready to go back to the hospital for her
2 day check up! When we left the hospital she weighed 6lbs 13oz and
when she went for her 2 day check-up she weight the exact same so
she kept a consistant weight for a day!
2 days old

Casey Adores his baby sister! He told us
the other day he wants a brother next! ha!
Lexi loves her little sister and is always
wanting to kiss and touch her toes!
 All 4 of our kids!
